Borobudur Trip (Part 3 of 8)

The weather was crazy that day, I arrive at Candi Borobudur after lunch time, bad timing as the sun was too bright for phototaking, so i thought. The weather changed from sunny to cloudy in a matter of moments and even threatened to rain at times.

The following series of photos has all been processed in Photoshop.

Borobudur Trip (Part 2 of 8)

Yogyakarta Sign

Candi (Temple) Borobudur is located in Yogyakarta, Central Java. From where i was staying in Semarang, its a 2 hours drive southbound. There is an abundance of greenery and fresh air here. You'll see padi fields and all sorts of other plantations.

Borobudur has nine platforms, of which the lower six are square and the upper three are circular. The upper platform features seventy-two small stupas surrounding one large central stupa. Each stupa is bell-shaped and pierced by numerous decorative openings. Statues of the Buddha sit inside the pierced enclosures. - wikipedia

As you walk around the structure, you will realise that the carvings on the walls tells a tale.
The lower levels features humans carvings, and as you climb towards the peak of the candi, the carvings begins to feature the path towards the heavens with carvings of buddhas.

You will see later posts featuring photos of the carvings.

I just returned from Borobudur. For those who don't know what this is, Borobudur is a Buddhist shrine built in the 9th Century even before Indonesia's conversion to Islam. Borobudur is Indonesia's single most visited tourist attraction. read more here..... It took me a one and a half hour flight from Singapore to Jakarta, an hour's flight from Jakarta to Semarang and a two hours drive to reach Borobudur Park. The journey was all green scenery and fresh air!

In the next few days, i will be posting photos of my Borobudur Trip.
